Missing Left Sock Beast [userpic]
Look, she's down! Let's kick her!

As though I weren't having enough trouble managing my depression lately, I just got a response from UNR's English Graduate School.

Oh, well.

Mom says, a couple of weeks ago: "What happens if you don't get in?" I answered "Then I try again for fall. And for next spring. And as many times as it takes or until I run out of chances." And I know this is true. It doesn't stop the negative feelings at the moment.

I share in your WTFness about this.

I mean, my application to Google rocked. What gives? Declined. Sucketh.

What I do in these circumstances: Stay busy, drugs/chocolate, exercise, funny movies, and overanalyse what I could have/should have done better in my application.

I'll probably send my resume again. Dammit.

I'm sorry, I wish you'd been accepted. I'm glad you want to keep trying, I'm sure you'll get it.

And on the positive side, at least you'll have some courses out of the way by the time you're officially into the program. :)

Well, bummer. I know you know this--it has nothing to do with how well qualified you are and almost everything to do with your as-of-yet-scant political network. Just get to know your instructors and you'll have an in next time. I know you'll get in.

That does suck.

My best advice is to start schmoozing with your instructors. Find out what their passions are and see if you can fit with them in some way. Then make sure they know that. It always helps when a professor wants to make you a pet project.

don't give up.

fight the good fight...

That is a bummer and a real downer. Glad you're going to keep trying, though! Good luck with it, and with getting the depression sorted out.

:( sorry. I know that kind of thing really sucks...college admissions weren't terrible, but when I didn't get into my study away program last year, I was rather upset.

However, I did this year find an even better one, and applied, and am waiting to hear back from it. fingers crossed and all. but had i been to the other one, i never would have found this. so hopefully you'll find something even better. or you'll try again there and this time it will work. admissions can be such a crapshoot-especially in a grad dept. which is probably pretty small. Good luck with your next try. :)

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you do re-apply, and that you are accepted next go-round!
