Hey slothman and/or daehith and/or other computer people:

Have you used LaTeX? Do you like it? :)

Comments

I used LaTeX (and occasionally raw TeX) to format my notes for physics class back in college. It's more complicated than raw HTML, but I found it very effective.

Okay - then I have a second question for you. :)

I'm working on an XP SP1 computer. I'm using the "Gentle Introduction to TeX" as my learning tool, and I'm already stumped. It says:

[The following local information should be included:
* What initial steps should be taken to permit the running of TeX and local device drivers
* How to run TeX
* How to read the log file
* How to preview and/or print the dvi file]

Whathuh? Do I need to get IT down here to help me with this?

Thanks again.

That looks like a “customize this for your local users” portion of the manual that hasn’t been customized for your workplace. If this is for work, then you should be able to ask someone about your particular setup, particularly the person who didn’t fill that information in; if it’s for a personal project, I recommend looking in /usr/share/texmf or wherever the documentation is on your local system. (Is this a cygwin package?)

It's MikTeX.

Thanks - I'll talk to IT, because I think I may be the first local user to want to try this. :)

I beg your pardon!

You, sir, have a dirty mind.

:)~

Of course, that's one of the things I /like/ about you...
